Final PLN

twitter

I think throughout this course I have learned so much about networks. I have used twitter, facebook, and my blog to expand my PLN. I also use other networks to learn things also. A PLN is great to have when someone is thinking about becoming a teacher. I will always use this in my future as a teacher.

C4T Post #4

learning pyramid

In my C4T I learned some great things. A few things I think about the post are, I think that if we combined techniques of project based learning and blended learning, that it would benefit a lot of individuals depending on there style of learning. I think me personally I would like to just stick with one instead of combining the two. I think this post gives use a great idea of where we are. I have never heard of the Khan topics before I read this post. The percentages that are in the post gives us great looks on algebra standards. I really enjoyed the C4T's this year. I learned a lot from different teachers and I received a lot of great ideas.

Jose Picardo long list of resources for teachers, this website gives you a lot of different terms that can help one in the future. This website is always updated for educational use and can be a great reference page for teachers. This website can also help individuals who aren't sure about certain terns and the uses.
The video top ten tips in the classroom this video shows different things that we can benefit from. Streaming videos is a major way to get our point across to our audience and it's very convenient. Music is a great source we can use also, music is very popular among teenagers and can be a great tool to attract them. Skype is a great way to interact with major people across the world. Skype is so effective that you know that you're talking to the right person because you can see them. Podcast are very special. Podcast are ways to communicate using audio. This way we can communicate with people who are blind also. I think that starting a blog should be one of the first tips. There is so much someone can do with a blog. Blogs also provide information to other who do not know anything about you. My experiences using a blog is that it helps me to use different resources and learn a lot about others.

technology

This article basically talks about the pros and cons of online teaching. It tells how online teaching can benefit school systems and how it can improve drop out rates. Online teaching could take away from jobs for teachers. In this article they also talk about how online teaching can make students anti-social. I think that online teaching is a good and bad thing. The reason I think it's good, is because a person has more time. A lot of people can budget there work better because they're on the on time. The reason it's bad is because anyone could be doing your work for you. A person could have all A's and get accepted into a great college but once they get there they can't do the work. I think that everyone needs to know how to do online work, but eventually hands on work will be what a person needs.

1. Watch this video: Top Ten Tips
Write a paragraph on how these tips can help you over time.

I think that these tips will become very useful over time. Learning to use these different things will always stick with you. A teacher could also teach someone else these methods. When you learn some of these things, a person can be effective from other places also. An example would be a teacher could go out of town and still give her class a lesson by streaming a video to them. I think that these tips are very handy and can really help a lot of people in there future.

Progress on Final Project

There are three people in our group. We have been talking about our final project for a while now. We all have decided to come together this week to try and finish everything in the lab. I think we will have a great final project.

Mrs. Yollis Classroom Blog

globe

In Mrs. Yollis Classroom Blog she prepares her students for the best. I noticed that she explained Veterans Day and provides a movie for anyone viewing her blog. She has also taught her students how to Skype with other children in Australia. I think this is great because these children can learn a lot from each other. They talked about different places and they also talked about there population differences. Mrs. Yollis class has taken a special time out the year, to collect coins for the United Nation Children Fund. They actually received well over their set goal. I think the idea of family blogging is great. Mrs. Yollis class has a specific month, where the children blog there family.

I really enjoy commenting on these children pages. It's something new for each and every student. These students have great ideas at such a young age. I wouldn't change commenting on these children blogs for anything. This is a great experience to comment on such intelligent children pages. I look forward to commenting on more children blogs.

In Ms.Cassidy Skype interview, She explains how she got involved with technology about ten years ago. She has been blogging for about five years, and she has been doing video's for about two years. She really enjoys doing what she does. She says that other teachers and parents really support what she's doing. She explained that she keeps her children safe by just letting them post there first name on there profile. She also doesn't allow here children to post pictures of themselves on there profile. I think if I had to teach this in my class, I would use the same techniques to protect my children. This technique can keep others from trying to track these young children down. Ms.Cassidy feels that every teacher should be technology literate. I agree with her on this because our world is getting smarter and smarter everyday and we need to know how to handle this.

C4T #3

I had Heidi Siwak for my teacher. In here blog she kept everything very interesting and keeps you wanting more. In one of her post she talks about transforming a school.I think she made a great point in this post, we can not be scared of change. I think if we receive the feedback from the right people we will eventually be able to make things like this possible. This post is very possible for individuals who are not scared of rejection. This was a very interesting post. The next post I read, talked about Google Hangout. She explained why she liked it and how it has expanded her social network. She is also trying to encourage more female to get involve with technology because there aren't many female in this area. I really enjoyed Heidi Siwak blog.

Do You Teach Or Do You Educate
I became an education major because I want to be more to the youth than just a teacher. I want to be a role model, help children with there future plans, and give them knowledge about life. I think this video makes sense because anyone can teach, but it takes someone with knowledge and great skills to be an educator. An educator will make sure you have everything you need to move on in life. We do not want to teach someone something and the next few weeks they forget everything. We should educate our students, so they will have the knowledge we gave them forever.

Don't Let Them Take Pencils Home
In this post, Mr. Johnson wanted to send a message. There are more ways we can help our students, than just in the classroom. We have to take different approaches and look at where they come from also. This message in this post can inspire future teachers with different ways of helping students.

What I've Learned This Year (2008-09)

teachers rock

In Mr. McClung first year of teaching, he takes us through the ups and downs of being a teacher. He feels that we should all have a way of reading the crowd as we teach. He explains from his experience that we should take different approaches to the students. He also feels, we should be very flexible with our students. Students are very different, so we have to look at each as they are different. He feels that one of the major keys to being successful as a teacher is communication. He feels communication is everything. He explains we can learn a lot from our students if only we communicate with them. The biggest concern he talks about is the way older people are afraid of technology. He tells how technology is our friend and is only here to help us. His finally address is that we should never stop learning as teachers. We are never to old to learn something new. The thing that make great teachers are the ability to keep going further with education. I agree with Mr. McClung entire post he gives great points and ideas for a first time teacher.
What I've Learned (2009-10)

teacher

In Mr. McClung 2009-2010 post. He changes schools and the grade that he teaches. He talks about the big adaptation that takes place from this change. He tells us how it's so much different teaching 8th graders than 6th graders. He feels that we have to do more to keep 8th graders entertained because of there age. Mr. McClung explains that the most helpful thing he does is find a school mom. He basically finds a teacher who has been there for some years and learns the ropes from her. He thinks this is a great learning tool for new teachers. We have to always understand that we are teaching Jr. high students, therefore we can't be controlling because they will not listen. We have to understand that we have a goal in mind when we are teaching these teenagers. We have to stick to our goals and not lose sight of the important things that we are after. In conclusion Mr. McClung feels that he has really progressed over his time as a teacher. I think that Mr. McClung has great points, and he really needs to have a post each year because his explanation about things are so great.

This Is How We Dream
In Richard Miller, This is how we dream. He talks about the way society has changed so much. Once upon a time the only resource of learning for everyone was the library. In today's society most people have everything they need right on there laptop. Laptops allow us to do so much more. They allow us to put different things together at anytime. Laptops have really changed our world.
Laptops also give us a better visual and better understanding of what we are looking at. The details that laptops give us, makes everything so much more interesting. We can sell things better now, due to the creativity of the internet. Internet also allows us to take virtual tours throughout different places, or even a persons dream.
Carly Blog Post
Carly Blog Post #12 is perfect. It really explains a lot about being an educator. She lays out everything we need to know very clear. This post is very similar to what Dr. Miller said, because she uses a lot of technology to get the point across. I do agree with the fact of teaching by example, because this makes things so much easier. This is the best written out post I have seen so far.

EDM 310

EDM310 Is Different
In these two videos they have some great points. In The Chipper Series, It shows how small decision that we make now can affect us in the real world. A video that I would enjoy participating in, would be a video that shows how someone can still be successful without school but it's going to take so much more to do.
EDM310 for dummies explains that if someone needs help, the lab is always available. EDM310 is a class where we learn. This class takes a lot of time, so you have to put aside time for it. I think anyone can make it through the class with great time management skills and the will to work.
Learn to Change, Change to Learn
This video provides a great point. It explains the way, schools are not helping students as much now as they did in the pass. Students have to learn different things for life. A lot of student are so afraid of change that they are not willing to learn. Students that learn much as possible are setting themselves up for success. When a student learns this give he or she the ability to make a change in our world. Once everyone realize how much our learning is affecting change in our society, more will be willing to learn.

PLN Progress

I am still trying to learn how to create my PLN. I read everything and I'm still having a little trouble with everything. I understand that It's a way to have everything in one spot and I think it's very convenient. I will have it up and working very soon.

dreams

My Childhood Dreams
First he explains why this is his last lecture. He explains how he has ten tumors in his liver. He then start to explain his childhood dreams. He talks about how not achieving his childhood dream, made him stronger and a better person. He explains what a brick wall is. A brick wall is for the people who do not want there accomplishments bad enough. The ones who want it will always be able to make it through the brick walls.
Enabling The Dreams Of Others
He felt he could help others with there dreams by becoming a professor. He felt that if you never set the bar for students, this will help them to strive further for there dream also. He feels that students can learn so much virtually. He taught a class, where students built virtual worlds. He could understand students better with this.
How You Can Achieve Your Dreams
Parents, mentors, and students are major influences on achieving dreams. He feels there are certain keys to success. A person has to have fun to achieve there dream. When we have a child like wonder, this is what keeps us going toward our dream. A lot of people don't achieve there dreams because they give up. He thinks that no one should ever give up. A person can't fail if they never give up. We also need others to help us to our success. The biggest thing to do to achieve your dream is be grateful of others. The conclusion of this entire lecture is that if you lead your life the right way the dream will come to you.

C4K Summary Post

These students blogs have really impressed me. The things that they are doing are great. I think there ideas are great and they are leading us in the right direction. It's amazing that kids this age are able to do class blogs. These students are very smart and will be in charge of our world some day. I really enjoy reading there blogs and I plan to continue reading them, so I can see what other great ideas they have.

The Networked Student
My reaction to this video, is that it makes so much sense. The 21st century is a different day and time. Students networking is going to be everyone's success soon. I feel if a student can't network in a few years, he or she will be out of luck.
The network student is also great because you meet different people and you receive information and guidance from people all across the world. This input from different cultures can help you in so many ways. Students networking is everything.
The question, "Why do we still need teachers"? This question is easy to answer. Our teachers guide us to our success. The teachers are there to teach us how to use our social network and expand our network base. This is perfect, because when we are done with the class, we will understand how to network throughout the world.
Personal Learning Environment
I think this 7th grader is very smart. She has everything in order and in a specific place. If she ever need to find anything important it's right there. I think to be successful, organization is the big key. My personal learning network is organized, but not as organized as her's.

Blog Post #5

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff
I think that if we don't teach our children technology, that they will be left behind. The world that we are living in now is different. Technology runs our world today. It's best that everyone knows how to use it. Scott McLeod is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. He also is the Founding Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the nation’s only academic center dedicated to the technology needs of school administrators, and was a co-creator of the wildly popular video series, Did You Know? (Shift Happens). He has received numerous national awards for his technology leadership work, including recognitions from the cable industry, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National School Boards Association. In Spring 2011 he was a Visiting Canterbury Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Dr. McLeod blogs regularly about technology leadership issues at Dangerously Irrelevant and Mind Dump and occasionally at The Huffington Post.
iSchool Initiative
The argument that is being made by Travis Allen, is that there is not enough technology in the schools due to the world we live in. He feels that since we have been born into this situation that everyone needs an iSchool to keep up to date. He is trying to get as many supporters as possible to help him with this. My first reaction to this was that it's a great idea, but in the long run it will get out of hand. How are teachers going to prevent students from cheating? This will also create a problem, as far as jobs. A lot of teachers will be out of work if everyone agree with this.
Virtual Choir
My first reaction to this video was wow! I have never seen anything like this. It was so different, I mean different as in a creative way. Eric was very creative when he thought of this. I think that everyone who was involved in this had a great time.
Teaching In The 21st Century
In this video, Robert thinks that it means nothing to teach in the 21st century. He feels that everything that is being taught has a bigger source that can be found easily using the internet. The way I feel about all this is that he's right. I think that technology will eventually take over and put a lot of people out of work. The thing about Robert's video is that if he's right, It looks bad for us who are trying to become teachers. We may have to find another job.

C4T Post #2

In my C4T post, I commented on a post that was written by Mrs. Hadley. In this post she talks about the way she and her husband prepared for hurricane Irene. They really came up with a great idea to keep there home from flooding. One of the things I found very interesting that they did was take 4 trashcans, fitted them with faucets and attached hoses to them. This post was very good. I think the ideas they had were great and it really helped them to save money. This post taught me that using your head can help a person go a long way.

Podcast is a great thing to use as far as classrooms. It also helps those who are better with working with electronics more so than paper. Ipods have over 100 ways to help us learn and study better. I think that podcast have actually made the world better. Podcast is a major factor for teachers too. It gives them content to teach with and things to teach about. I think the EPN is great for teachers world wide. The benefits of podcasting in a classroom setting is amazing. It's a great way of interacting with students outside of class. It also helps students become creative. I think podcasting is great.

Blog Post #3

It Not About The Technology
In Kelly Hines post on technology, she makes some great points. I feel that technology is good to an extent. It helps those who are smarter with electronics, but what about the individuals who are good with hands on things. I feel that teachers should come up with a way to benefit both types not just one. Technology it's good for everyone. This was an awesome post.
Technologically Illiterate Teacher
I think that this post was stated perfectly. I feel that it could have not been said any better. Teachers should have to understand how to do everything or most things that technology has to offer. Technology is growing and growing everyday, and for teachers to teach our youth they should have to be up to date on there technology too. I really recommend this post to all teachers in the world.
Social Media Count
Once I started reading over the numbers in this post, I realized the affect that technology has on our world is amazing. Technology plays a bigger role in our society than people think. This is why we need to try and get everyone in our society on the same page when it comes to technology. We need everyone together in this because technology will take over the world in the future. This post makes me want to learn more about technology.
Vision of Student Today
This video brought a lot of things to the light for me. It made me understand the true meaning of a lot of things. It was very interesting to see the different signs that the students held up, because all of there signs were so true. It's amazing how we as the students know so much but are so scared to voice our opinion. I think that if students start to voice there opinion to teachers, they will know how to help us in better ways.

Blog Post #2

Did You Know

In the first video I watched, I really learned some interesting facts. Did you know that China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world? I also learned that 25 percent of India's population IQ, is greater than the total population of the United States. India has more honor students than American has kids. I think a major fact that caught my eyes, was that we are preparing students for jobs that don't even exist.

The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that today's learners will have 10-14 jobs by the age 38. Did you know that one in eight couples met online last year? The U.S. also ranks 19th in Broadband Internet. Text messaging is a very popular thing in today's society, but the first commercial text message was sent in December of 1992.

Mr. Winkle

This video is about an old man name Mr. Winkle, who wakes up after 100 years. When Mr. Winkle woke, he woke to find that the entire world had changed. He didn't understand what a computer was or how it worked. He went into a school classroom and it all looked the same. I think the mural of this story is that if someone does not stay on top of technology, they will get left behind.

Sir Ken Robinson

In Ken Robinson video he feels that creativity is just as important as education. In today society kids are taught to be afraid, but most kids are not afraid of being wrong they'll take a chance. In today's society we are educating people not to be creative. The biggest thing we as the people need to work on is being creative and educated at the same time. People should start thinking outside the box and stop worrying about being wrong.

Cecelia Gault

In Cecelia Gault post she explains the way Finland is way ahead of the United States. One of the major things to this is that we need to change our curriculum. The drop out rate in Finland is one percent. The drop out rate in the United States is twenty-five percent. I found this very interesting, so what is the U.S. doing wrong? I think that the U.S. might want to take on a different learning method to reduce our drop out rate, before we get left even further behind.

Harness Your Students Digital Smarts

In the Digital Smarts blog post Vicki Davis lets her students learn using more than just pencil and paper. She understands that everyone doesn't learn by just writing and listening to lectures. She understands that most students love to have a visual aid to guide them. I think that this is a great idea, because really the students are teaching themselves and are able to learn better.

Blog Post #1

Hi my name is Jeffrey Dorsey. I am from Opelika, AL. I have lived there my entire life. I am very interested in graduating from college one day. I wanted to attend the University of South Alabama because it is a great school and it's one of the top schools on the leader board for my major.
I wanted to enter the field of education because I really enjoy children and helping others. I have a great passion for being successful. I probably workout a little more than the average person. I have never taken a class like this, so I really want to see how this is going to turn out.
While I was watching the video on time management, I learned that most Americans are very bad with dealing with time management. I also learned that in a situation, a person should always ask the question why. Everyone should have a plan each and everyday. A person can always change there plan, but they should always start with one. I did not know anything about Dr. Pausch before watching this video.
