Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff
I think that if we don't teach our children technology, that they will be left behind. The world that we are living in now is different. Technology runs our world today. It's best that everyone knows how to use it. Scott McLeod is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. He also is the Founding Director of the UCEA Center for the Advanced Study of Technology Leadership in Education (CASTLE), the nation’s only academic center dedicated to the technology needs of school administrators, and was a co-creator of the wildly popular video series, Did You Know? (Shift Happens). He has received numerous national awards for his technology leadership work, including recognitions from the cable industry, Phi Delta Kappa, and the National School Boards Association. In Spring 2011 he was a Visiting Canterbury Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. Dr. McLeod blogs regularly about technology leadership issues at Dangerously Irrelevant and Mind Dump and occasionally at The Huffington Post.
iSchool Initiative
The argument that is being made by Travis Allen, is that there is not enough technology in the schools due to the world we live in. He feels that since we have been born into this situation that everyone needs an iSchool to keep up to date. He is trying to get as many supporters as possible to help him with this. My first reaction to this was that it's a great idea, but in the long run it will get out of hand. How are teachers going to prevent students from cheating? This will also create a problem, as far as jobs. A lot of teachers will be out of work if everyone agree with this.
Virtual Choir
My first reaction to this video was wow! I have never seen anything like this. It was so different, I mean different as in a creative way. Eric was very creative when he thought of this. I think that everyone who was involved in this had a great time.
Teaching In The 21st Century
In this video, Robert thinks that it means nothing to teach in the 21st century. He feels that everything that is being taught has a bigger source that can be found easily using the internet. The way I feel about all this is that he's right. I think that technology will eventually take over and put a lot of people out of work. The thing about Robert's video is that if he's right, It looks bad for us who are trying to become teachers. We may have to find another job.

  1. What's up Jeffrey! I'm assigned to your post this week ha ha. I think you are dead on about a lot of this. Most of your blog is hypothetical. There may be ways around putting people out of work. But then again, if you're right we have a huge problem considering our careers. I failed to mention this in my post. Overall I think it's a solid post. Good job and i'll see you Tuesday.

  2. Jeffrey, I enjoyed reading your blog post! I thought the iSchool was a neat idea also. The thought of cheating never came to my mind until I read your post and I also never thought about the loss of teaching jobs. I completely agree with you and I think that Travis Allen should think about some of those things.

Your blog looks really good! Keep up the good work!

  3. I can't tell whether you understood that Dr. McLeod was being sarcastic in his post. All we have is a statement of your beliefs.

You have copied from Mr. McLeod's About Me page without acknowledging the source and enclosing in quotation marks the passage copied. If you copy and paste more than 5 words without acknowledgement, you have technically committed plagiarism. Plagiarism is a very serious offense. You are not the only person who has done this for this assignment. I will attribute it this time to a lack of understanding about how to avoid plagiarism. It is especially important that anyone entering the teaching profession understands what plagiarism is, avoids it in their personal work, and can teach others about it. The copy and paste world in which we now live makes it very easy to do. Careers can easily be ruined through plagiarism. Watch the Class Blog for additional information and assignments.
